The Green Tree Foundation was established with the vision of establishing a green filled society by means of massive revegetation. The Anantapur District has been a victim of famines for many decades. Recent drought and famine conditions led to the suicides of farmers due to their dependence on agriculture.

Andra Pradesh is not industrialized and does not have dense forests. The main crop in the district is ground nuts (peanuts). The recurring cropping of this species for the centuries has turned the soil arid. Recent records of the rain fall indicate below average rain fall compared with the historical norm. Thus the Anantapur District is at risk of being a site of starvation in the State of Andhra Pradesh.

With Global warming and the rapidly changing conditions in this location, the Green Tree Foundation Society has discovered that greenery and water are the antidote for all the evils of this damaged environment. So, our foundation is working with the vision of establishing a green, rich society by means of massive revegetation through horticulture under irrigation, agroforestry, back yard horticulture and kitchen gardens for individual needs. We are also involved in water-harvesting activities.

If we represent knowledge as a tree, we know that things that are divided are yet connected.  We know that to observe the divisions and ignore the connections is to destroy the tree. Wendell Berry
